The Mary Kay Story:
Cosmetics, yes...but there's more:

How to build a career, and a financial empire
Ever hear of Mary Kay Cosmetics?

Your editor is a guy, and no, I've never worn makeup.
...But even I've heard of Mary Kay.

Today, Mary Kay Inc operates in dozens of countries and has millions of independent beauty consultants.
She's one of the classic examples of someone who took experience in commission sales and turned it into a highly successful entrepreneurial business.
Mary Kay Ash, born in Hot Wells, TX (south of San Antonio) built a multibillion-dollar direct sales cosmetics company where thousands under her earned commissions selling products.
She had spent about 25 years in direct sales, herself-
selling products door-to-door and training salespeople.
She became frustrated because she repeatedly trained men who were then promoted over her, despite her superior performance.
At age 45, she resigned and began writing a book about how she thought a company should treat women.
That book evolved into a business plan, and she launched Mary Kay Cosmetics with just $5,000 in savings.
The company began with nine independent beauty consultants and a small line of skincare products.
Her business model relied on independent commission-based sales representatives, giving women the opportunity to build their own businesses.
Take note all— just because she started out on commissions, Mary Kay never blindly labeled it a "scam"
as we read people are doing nowadays— on blogs like NextDoor— calling Aflac & Trivago, and CLIA, etc..."scams" just because one was required to train, and learn a skill,
but had to pay tuition.
This is truly an alarming find.
Why are so many people so closed minded suddenly,
bereft of any entrepreneurial spirit, post COVID?
Mary Kay kept an open mind—learned what she needed to learn, and then went to work...for herself.
Is higher learning like college a "scam"? Of course not.

Are trade schools "scams"? Of course not.

One of the largest in CA is nearby us, in fat...
just down the street:
Universal Technical Institute, or "UTI". You pay your tuition. You train. You gain a valuable skill. You go to work. You're either hired by a business and become their
"paid servant", working under their conditions, schedule, and limited pay, or you go and start a business of your own, and earn many times what you would otherwise.
Many other well-known entrepreneurs and business leaders either started in, or built their fortunes through, commission-based sales, direct selling, or businesses where income depended entirely on performance rather than a salary, too.
Here are some more prime examples:

Dave Liniger – Co-founded RE/MAX, creating one of the world's largest real estate brokerages based on commission-driven agents.
Gary Keller – Co-founded Keller Williams Realty, now one of the largest real estate companies in the world, where agents earn commissions.
Tony Robbins – Early in his career, sold seminars and coaching on commission before building a global business empire.
Jordan Belfort – His WILD success demonstrated how lucrative commission-based sales can be. He later became a sales trainer.
Zig Ziglar – Started as a cookware salesman. Became one of the most influential sales trainers
and motivational speakers in history.
Tom Hopkins – Began as a real estate salesperson.
Went on to train millions of sales professionals worldwide.
Grant Cardone – Started in automobile sales, then built multiple companies in sales training, real estate, and investing.
Jeffrey Gitomer – Started in sales and became one of the best-known sales authors, earning millions through books, seminars, and consulting.
Brian Tracy – Worked in straight-commission sales before becoming one of the world's best-known business speakers and authors.
John Parks - Our owner. The big boss. He's written in our company newsletter how he started out when his older sister needed money for her wedding, but found no one specialized in lending to that field of need, so he took a short loan certification class, and partnered up with some major wedding networks to do just that. He then turned his sights on the wedding venues, themselves, and real estate.
The rest is history.

The broader point is that many high-income careers aren't just "jobs" in the traditional sense.
Examples include:
-
Real estate agents
-
Mortgage brokers
-
Insurance agents
-
Commercial loan officers & brokers
-
Recruiters
-
Financial advisors
-
Independent sales representatives
-
Business consultants
-
Notary Publics/Loan Signing Agent combos
Many people in these professions earn six or even seven figures, but they often start with no guaranteed salary.
They get paid when they produce results.
